NARR LAUNCHES NEW MEMBERSHIP DRIVE
How many railroad referees are there?  86? 106? 206?  The roster of NARR has 86 names and is growing.  The NMB roster claims 206 names, 106 of whom were actively deciding cases last quarter.  The theme is clear:  there are eligible candidates for membership.  This year's campaign will invite the eligible into membership.  Carrying this membership drive is Eckehard Muessig and Stan Dobry.
COMMITTEE APPOINTMENTS
The Meeting Planners for our Chicago, September 5-6, 2003 meeting at the Wyndham Hotel are Ann Kenis and Steven Bierig.  They will be assisted by Rex Wiant and Richard Sambuco.  The Program Chair is Jim Conway who is assisted by Dorothy Moran.  Web Page Manager is Anna DuVal Smith, axs40@po.cwru.edu  Health & Welfare Committee Chair is Peter Meyers and Research Chair is Nancy Kauffman.  Archivist & Historian is Jim McDonnell.
MENTORING UNDERWAY
New Referees are participating in mentoring projects in Cleveland, Kansas City, Fort Worth, Omaha, Buffalo, New York, and Washington, D.C.  We encourage members to invite new referees to hearings.
CHANGE IS IN THE AIR
Awards last month indicate our members are involved in assisting the parties with rule changes, working conditions, intermodal shipments, and mergers.  Change is in the air for the rail industry and the RLA.

Next month's question:  With the proposed changes in the RLA,
should we open our doors to airline referees?
